A biology major with a 3.84 grade point average, Roberts was a third team CoSIDA Academic All-American selection in 2010. The Southland Conference awarded Roberts the F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship - the league’s ultimate academic honor for its top graduating student-athletes. The award is presented annually to graduating male and female letterwinners with the highest cumulative grade-point averages during their enrollment at Southland Conference universities. Roberts also had a successful season in competition. Posting the second-highest point total (7,923) in the event’s history, Roberts repeated as Southland Conference outdoor champion in the decathlon and broke his own school record (7,451) set in 2009. At the 2010 championships in Arlington, he placed in the top three in seven of the 10 events with first-place marks in the 400 and 1,500-meter runs and the 110-meter hurdles. Roberts qualified for regional competition in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing 35th at the East Regional. Roberts was also named to the Academic All-Southland Conference team for the third straight season. Following the Lions’ conference championship at the 2009 outdoor meet, Roberts was named the Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year for outdoor track and field. A first team Academic All-Southland Conference choice in 2008 and 2009, Roberts was also named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Men’s All-Academic Track and Field Team in 2009.
