The senior from Amarillo, Texas, earned All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and soon after was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 25th round of the Major League Baseball Draft (736 overall).

Crites hit .299, with 13 doubles, 2 triples, 60 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He led the team with 20 multi-hit games and was second with 17 mutli-RBI games. One of three players in the Southland Conference to record double-digit totals in both home runs and stolen bases this season, joining Schwaner and teammate Ryan Byers in accomplishing the feat, Crites ranked second in the conference in RBI and third in homers.

It took two rounds of voting to whittle down the candidates on the NCBWA's 22nd Annual All-America first, second and third teams. Twenty-one different conferences are represented with nine conference championship teams included. The three All-America squads are also made up of 14 conference players of the year, 12 conference pitchers of the year winners and 12 first-round draft picks in the recent Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
