Core is all-time program leader in scoring (2,046), rebounding (1,475), field goals made (759) and free throws made (524). The Noblesville, Indiana native received All-American honors twice in his career (1967 and 1968) becoming the only player in the program's 72-year history to earn the award.

During the 1967-68 season, Core averaged 21.2 points and 15.4 rebounds in route to the honor. The following season, the four-time All-Gulf States Conference selection repeated as All-American after scoring 21.7 points and pulling down 18.5 rebounds.

Core also holds a pair of single game records including a 31 rebound performance against Mississippi College Dec. 18, 1967 (tied with Charlie Doskey - Jan. 2, 1960 vs. McMurray College).and most consecutive free throws made in a game (15) vs. McNeese Jan. 12, 1965.

In 2017, Core was inducted into to the Louisiana Sports of Hall located in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
