The Jewel Sumner grad had the best mark in the nation in 2016 of 18 feet, 8.25 inches (5.70m) at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Relays in Austin, Texas. The mark garnered King first-team All-American honors and USTFCAA National Field Athlete of the Week.

In the 2016 indoor season, King finished with the third best jump in the nation of 17-6.25 (5.35m) at the NCAA Division Championships March 12 in Birmingham, Alabama for his first of four All-American selections.
