The All-American announcement caps a season that saw Hargis finish among the team leaders in every major offensive category and earn All-Southland Conference Honorable Mention accolades.

Hargis finished the 2008 season among the Southeastern team leaders with a .333 batting average (second), five home runs (tied for third), 45 RBI (third). The redshirt freshman center fielder finished second on the team with a .489 slugging percentage and finished fourth with a .398 on-base percentage.

The Meraux native made his presence felt at the top of the order, taking over the leadoff spot on March 5 and embarking on a ten-game hitting streak during which he went 19-for-39 (.487) with two home runs, four doubles and 12 RBI. During the course of the streak, Hargis was named the Southland Conference hitter of the week for hitting safely in five games, going 13-for-20 (.650) March 11-15.

Hargis proved consistent throughout the year, producing 24 multi-hit games, including a 5-for-5 day on March 14 at Stephen F. Austin.

Hargis also proved to be one of the most clutch hitters in the Southeastern lineup, batting .500 (30-for-60) with 14 RBI with runners in scoring position and .778 (7-for-9) with the bases loaded. Hargis had two grand slams on the season while leading off, remarkably, both slams came in the first inning.
