Robert Martin was Southeastern's first national champion in any sport, earning a national crown in the 120-yard high hurdles at the 1974 NCAA Nationals. Martin won the Gulf South Conference title three times in the 120-yard high hurdles. He finished his Southeastern career the holder of six school records. He was also inducted into the SLU Hall of Fame in 1979
