- Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American (Second Team)
Cryer, who graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in accounting, became the first baseball player in school history and the 13th student-athlete overall to earn Academic All-America honors by CoSIDA.
“It's a tremendous honor to be considered with other players throughout the country,” Cryer said. “Academics play a big part in what we do at Southeastern and I've always tried to focus on doing my part to help the team and to be successful for the rest of my life.”
Cryer helped Southeastern to a 35-20 record heading into the Lions' first round game on Wednesday in the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament in San Marcos, Texas. The senior hit .271 on the season with a pair of home runs, 40 RBI with 13 doubles and five stolen bases.
A three-time member on the CoSIDA Academic All-District VI team, Cryer was awarded the Southland Conference's F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship and was a seven-time member on the Southeastern President's List. Cryer was a two-time Academic All-Southland Conference selection, the 2009-10 Southland Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a three-time President of the Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
“Josh exemplifies what a student-athlete is all about,” Southeastern head coach Jay Artigues said. “He's the kind of kid that when you go recruiting, you look for the 'Josh Cryer's' out there. Josh is a great role model for the younger kids. He's the kind of baseball player and student-athlete you want in your program. He represents this University in a first-class manner, he has done well both on and off the field, and his accolades speak for themselves.”
