A two-time All-Gulf States Conference player, being named as a center in 1965 and a linebacker in 1966, Billy Andrews played 11 years in the National Football League, the first eight with the Cleveland Browns. He also played for San Diego and Denver before retiring. As a member of the Browns, on September 21, 1970 against the defending Super Bowl champion New York Jets, Andrews intercepted a Joe Namath pass and returned it for a touchdown in the first Monday Night Football game ever televised as Cleveland won, 31-21. Andrews was named the Browns' defensive player of the year in 1971 and was a team captain in 1973.
