Timely Hitting Helps Southeastern Defeat Central Arkansas, 6-5

CONWAY, Ark. – Brock Hebert hit a two-run triple to cap a four-run fourth inning while Justin Boudreaux added a two-run home run in the seventh to help Southeastern Louisiana defeat Central Arkansas, 6-5, in a Southland Conference game Friday night at Bear Field.

Joe Sparacino and Britt Gautreaux each added RBI singles in the fourth inning as Southeastern (15-7, 5-2 SLC) scored all of its runs with two outs. UCA fell to 10-13 overall and 1-6 in the SLC.

The series resumes on Saturday at 4 p.m. Southeastern will send right-hander Tyler Watkins (4-0, 2.21 ERA) to the mound with UCA countering with right-hander Ryan Angus (1-2, 3.21 ERA).

Southeastern trailed 3-0 after three innings before getting to UCA starter Evan Cox (1-4) in the fourth. Cass Hargis and Cody Gougler each drew two-out walks to put runners on first and second before Sparacino hit a dribbler up the middle to score Hargis.

Gautreaux, who entered the game as a pinch-hitter, then singled through the left side to drive in Gougler before Hebert laced a triple to right-center field to give the Lions a 4-3 lead.

The Lions took a 6-3 lead in the seventh after Cox retired the first two batters in the inning. Jonathan Pace singled to center-field to extend his hitting streak to 19 games before Boudreaux belted a pitch over the left-field wall for his fifth home run of the season.

Brandon Efferson (4-1) pitched 6.2 innings and scattered eight hits to earn the win for Southeastern. Stefan Lopez pitched the final two innings for the Lions and fanned three to earn his fifth save of the year.

Hebert and Boudreaux had two hits each to lead Southeastern while Pace equaled former Lion Brent Taylor (1989) for the second-longest hitting streak in school history.

Jake Fuller went 3-for-5 to lead UCA at the plate while Ethan Harris added two hits. Cox pitched seven innings for the Bears and allowed seven hits and six runs.
