HAMMOND, La. – The back-to-back Southland Conference regular-season champion Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell, 8-5, Sunday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field to No. 5-seeded McNeese in the final game of the Hammond Bracket presented by North Oaks Health of the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament.

No. 1-seeded Southeastern (34-21, 19-9 SLC) ended its tournament run against McNeese (31-23, 16-14 SLC) in Game 7 of the Hammond Bracket.

After the Cowboys started with two runs in the second, Alex Perry scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning to put the Lions on the board, 2-1.

In the bottom of the third, Brody Capps walked to first, then reached second after a fielder's choice. Peyton Woods singled to put two runners in scoring position. A two-run single by Justin Williams put the Lions in front, 3-2.

McNeese took the lead in the fifth, then added to its advantage in the following innings, 7-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Connor Cuff's 16th home run of the season cut the Cowboys' lead to three, 7-4. Perry started the eighth inning with SLU's 93rd home run of the season, 7-5.

McNeese's Eric Nachtsheim (8-3) earned the win, throwing six innings Sunday. Southeastern's Blake Lobell (4-2) was given the loss.

Perry (3-for-4) and Woods (3-for-4) put together multiple-hit performances Sunday. Woods singled three times, while Perry had a solo home run. After a solo homer against McNeese, Cuff closed the SLC tourney with 10 hits, six doubles, and three homers.
