HAMMOND, La. – The 2017 outdoor season will continue for eight members of the Southeastern Louisiana track and field team, who qualified for next week's NCAA East Preliminaries, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced on Thursday.

    Advancing to the preliminaries, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Facility in Lexington, Kentucky, are seniors Andre Colebrook, Gennard Paul, Ashley Riley, Collin Rowland and Alex Young and juniors Devin King and Cliff Resais on the men's side and freshman Ashley Davis for the Lady Lions.

    Field events are set to get started Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with the men's javelin scheduled for noon and the men's hammer throw at 4 p.m. Track events will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the men's 400-meter hurdles at 5 p.m., the 100 at 6:55 and the 400-meter dash at 7:45. Saturday's field events get underway at 2 p.m. with the men's pole vault and men's shot put both at 4:30 p.m. The track events begin at 4:30 p.m.

    Saturday's schedule opens with the field events at 2 p.m. with the women's shot put set for 6 p.m. The track events are slated to start at 6 p.m.

    The top 12 finishers in each event at the preliminaries will qualify for the Division I National Championships scheduled for June 6-10 in Eugene, Oregon.

    Paul goes into the first preliminary of his career as the top seed in the javelin with a throw of 255 feet, 4 inches, achieved in winning the Southland Conference title on Saturday.

    King, the reigning conference champion in the pole vault, is in the preliminaries for the third straight year as the No. 2 seed at 18-4.5. He qualified ninth at the preliminaries in 2016 and was 18^th in 2015.

    Young qualified for the preliminaries in two events, the hammer throw and the shot put, capturing both at the conference championships. He is seeded third in the hammer at 235-5 and 37^th in the shot at 58-1.25. Young will be making his second trip to the preliminaries as a Lion and his fourth overall. He qualified sixth in the hammer while also finishing 30^th in the shot put in 2015. While at Gardner-Webb, Young qualified 12^th in the hammer as a sophomore in 2014 and competed in both the shot put and hammer as a freshman in 2013.

    Colebrook is making his first preliminary appearance as the seventh seed in the 400-meter hurdles after winning the conference title in 50.60 seconds on Sunday.

    Riley comes in as the 23^rd seed in the 400 meters with a time of 46.70 seconds. He previously made the preliminaries in 2015, taking 38^th in the 400 meters.

    Rowland, who took fourth in the javelin at the conference meet, is also seeded 23^rd with a mark of 222-10. He was 18^th at the 2015 Preliminaries.

    Resais is making his preliminary debut as the 42^nd seed in the 100 meters with a time of 46.70. 

    Davis, coming off a conference championship in the shot put, is the 21^st seed in the event with a throw of 53-7.
