FRISCO, Texas – Three members of the Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team earned recognition for their accomplishments both in the competition area and in the classroom as
Terrell Webb,
Esther Nwanze, and
Donroy Brown were all named to Southland Conference All-Academic teams, the SLC announced on Wednesday.
Webb and Nwanze were both named First Team All-Academic while Brown was named to the Second Team.
Webb, a graduate student from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, makes his fourth-straight appearance on the SLC All-Academic team. He maintained a 4.0 GPA as he sought his master's in health in kinesiology while earning an All-American Second Team honor after winning the Southland Conference title in the weight throw at the SLC Indoor Track & Field Championships and earning a spot at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in the discipline. His best throw came at the SLC Indoor Championships when he broke the Southeastern school record with a toss of 23.62 meters (77'6").
Nwanze, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., makes her second-straight appearance on the SLC All-Academic list as she maintained a 3.883 GPA in integrative biology while winning three SLC medals and broke school records in two disciplines during the season. During the indoor season, she was part of the silver medal-winning 4x400-meter relay team. During the outdoor season, Nwanze and the 4x400-meter relay team broke and then reset the school record with a 3:40.46 at the LSU Alumni Gold meet She cruised to the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the SLC Outdoor Championships as the only woman to break one minute in the competition, and then broke the school record in the NCAA Outdoor Championships East First Round with a time of 57.35 seconds in the first round race which qualified her for the quarterfinals for the second-straight year.
Brown, a senior from Westmoreland, Jamaica, earns his first SLC All-Academic honor with a 3.748 GPA in general studies while winning SLC medals in the shot put during both the indoor and outdoor seasons and setting a school record. Won the bronze medal during the SLC Indoor Championships and the silver medal during the SLC Outdoor Championships, clinching a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Championship East First Round in the process. As he prepared for the East First Round, he broke the SLU school shot put record with a throw of 18.70 meters (61'4.25") at the Tucson Elite Throws Classic. Brown also competed in weight throw, discus throw, and hammer throw during the season.
