Sophomore's 16th-Place Finish Earns Second Team All-America Nod

EUGENE, Ore. – Southeastern Louisiana University women's track & field team sprinter Onyah Favour became an All-American even as her season came to an end in the national semifinal race in the 400-meter dash Thursday at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Running in the first heat of three, Favour, a sophomore from Asaba, Nigeria, clocked a time of 52.39 seconds which had her crossing the finish line in sixth place.

When all three heats were finished, Favour's time was the 16th-fastest, earning her a spot as an All-American on the second team.

"What a historic season for such an amazing athlete," said SLU head track & field coach Michael Rheams. "She overcame major adversity, especially after not feeling well following the [NCAA East First Round] meet, but she continued to fight in her pursuit of greatness. I couldn't be prouder and more honored to have witnessed her journey. I'd like to give a special thanks to Coach Damion Jeanpiere, who has played a vital role in helping her achieve this level of excellence. I am also deeply grateful to [assistant athletic trainer] Alexis [Ring], who was with us every step of the way, keeping the team healthy and advocating for each and every athlete. What an incredible season!"
