HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University track & field team member
Onyah Favour begins her run for a national title on Thursday when she competes in the 400-meter dash semifinal race at the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Thursday's women's 400-meter dash semifinal race is set for 5:41 p.m. PDT/7:41 p.m. CDT and will be televised on ESPN2 and ESPN+ with live results available through Flash Results.
Three heats are scheduled for the semifinal race with the top two finishers in each heat automatically qualifying for the championship race while the next three fastest times will get the three at-large spots in the final.
Favour, a sophomore from Asaba, Nigeria, has continued to improve through each meet, leading to her top moments of the season at the biggest moments. She won a silver medal at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, posting a 52.54-second mark which bested what was the SLC Outdoor Championship record entering the event and cemented her spot at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships East First Round.
She followed that by not just breaking 52 seconds for the first time in her career, but also breaking the Southeastern school record in the discipline with a time of 51.93 seconds in the first round race at the East First Round, finishing third in her heat which automatically advanced her to the national quarterfinal race.
In the quarterfinal, she was consistent with her new time, stopping the clock at 51.94 seconds to break 52 once again while coming up just 0.01 seconds slower than her school record time from two days earlier and earn her way through on time to Thursday's semifinal race.
Should Favour advance, the 400-meter dash national championship will be run on Sat., June 14 at 7:27 p.m. PDT/9:27 p.m. CDT on ESPN+.
