Frazier Breaks School Record at LSU Invitational

Young and King also place first

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field teams got off to an impressive start at the LSU Invitational on Friday. Kicking off their 2015 indoor season inside LSU's Carl Maddox Field House, a total of ten Lions and Lady Lions took home top-three finishes.

Highlighting the evening's wins was the record-breaking performance in the women's weight throw event by Misha Frazier. The junior broke Southeastern's indoor weight throw record (formerly held by Kim Carriere since 2008) by over two feet, tossing for sixty-two feet, 8.75 inches. Frazier also placed second in the women's shot put event, turning in a distance of forty-eight feet, 6.67 inches.

"Misha has continued to impress me in her technical understanding of the weight throw and her results have shown it," said assistant coach Lucais MacKay.
"She's a hard worker and demands a perfomance out of herself when she gets the opportunity."

Also pacing Southeastern's top performances in Baton Rouge were junior Alex Young and freshman Devin King.

In his first meet as a Southeastern Lion, Young won the men's weight throw event, tossing for sixty-six feet, one inch. The Gardner-Webb transfer also placed second in the men's shot put event, throwing for fifty-four feet, 4.75 inches.

"Alex has made an immediate impact on our program," said MacKay. "Expect to see more out of him throughout the season."

Freshman Devin King made the most of his debut indoor meet, placing first in the men's pole vault event. The former Jewel Sumner Cowboy turned in a mark of seventeen feet, 1.11 inches.

Southeastern took home two second-place finishes, thanks to junior Jonathan Kinchen and the women's 4x400-meter relay team. Made up of Domonique White, Bayleigh Butler, Vanessa Williams, and Kayla Quincy, placed second, the Lady Lions combined for a time of 4:05.94 in the 4x400-meter relay. Kinchen tossed for sixty-five feet, 2.25 inches in the men's weight throw, finishing just behind Young.

Other top finishers in Baton Rouge were: sophomore Whitney Adams (women's pole vault, 11-08.00, 3rd place), White (women's 400-meter dash, 59.24. 3rd place), and senior Billy Minnifield (men's 200-meter dash, 22.68, 3rd place).

The Lions and Lady Lions will return to action next week as they travel to Houston, Texas to compete in the UH Leonard Hilton Memorial, hosted by the University of Houston.
