Lions Close Out Midweek Slate With Visit To Privateers

Southeastern to make first trip to Maestri Field since Katrina

Jordan Hymel is 4-2 on the mound in nine appearances in 2011
HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team closes out in 2011 midweek schedule on Tuesday when it travels to New Orleans to face UNO at Maestri Field.

First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (30-16), which has won six of its last eight games, returns to action after posting a 4-2 win at Sam Houston State on Sunday to claim the three-game series and clinch its school-record fifth consecutive 30-win season. The Lions earned their first extra inning victory since defeating UTSA in the 2009 Southland Conference Tournament when they edged SHSU, 5-4, in 10 innings in Friday's opener.

The visit to Maestri Field will be Southeastern's first since the Lions posted a 9-5 win on April 26, 2005. Since resuming the series this season with UNO (3-42), Southeastern has earned three wins including a 15-5 victory last Wednesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Brock Hebert leads Southeastern at the plate with a .353 average followed by Justin Boudreaux (.346-7-38), Jonathan Pace (.345-1-32) and Jeff Harkensee (.330-9-49). Former Holy Cross product Cass Hargis (.294-0-21), Josh Cryer (.287-2-36) and Cody Gougler (.281-1-21) are next in hitting for Southeastern, which is hitting .288 as a team with 25 home runs and is third in the Southland Conference in runs scored (300).

Sophomore Jordan Hymel (4-2, 5.79 ERA) will earn the start on the mound for Southeastern, which ranks third in the Southland Conference with a 3.56 team earned run average.

UNO, which is 1-6 at home this season and is a Division I Independent, has lost its last 13 games. The Privateers dropped four games last weekend at the Liberty Tournament in Lynchburg, Va., falling twice to LeMoyne and host Liberty.

Cameron Wheeless leads UNO at the plate with a .264 batting average. Beau Boudreaux (.247-0-7) and Chris Geronimo (.236-0-9) are next in hitting for the Privateers while Nolan Church leads the team in both home runs (4) and RBI (22).
