HAMMOND –
Senior right-hander Tyler Watkins pitched two innings in relief before tossing 5.2 innings in a starting role as Southeastern Louisiana earned a pair of Southland Conference wins over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

In the completion of a suspended game from Friday, senior Josh Cryer lined an RBI single to right field in the 11th inning to give Southeastern a 5-4 victory. In the nightcap, Southeastern's Jonathan Pace went 5-for-6 at the plate while Justin Boudreaux was 3-for-5 with a two-run double in a 9-4 victory.

The sweep moved Southeastern (34-18, 17-12 SLC) into a three-way tie for second-place in the league standings with SFA (30-20, 17-12 SLC) and Sam Houston State (34-18, 17-12 SLC) heading into the final week of the regular-season.

The victory in the nightcap was win No. 200 at Southeastern for head coach Jay Artigues as he became the third Lion skipper joining Greg Marten (348 wins from 1991-2002) and Pat Kenelly (211 wins from 1951-64) to reach the 200-win plateau.

The series will conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, Southeastern will honor its senior class. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. Tickets for the game are available on Sunday at the gate at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field or on-line at www.LionSports.net.

GAME 1 – Southeastern 5, SFA 4 (11 innings)
Cryer, a 4.0 student-athlete and one of nine Lions on the roster to earn a Bachelor's degree on Saturday, lined a 1-and-1 pitch off SFA reliever Cody Prince into right-field that allowed Britt Gautreaux to score from second.

Gautreaux led off the inning with a walk from SFA's Fabian Arcizo (1-1) before Boudreuax moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Jeff Harkensee was intentionally walked, Cryer followed with his game-winning hit.

After Friday's game was suspended after nine innings due to severe weather in the Hammond area, Watkins (8-3) came on and retired all six batters he faced with a strikeout.

Southeastern took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Boudreaux and Cass Hargis each hit RBI singles. The Lions trailed 3-2 after five innings before scoring twice in the sixth to regain the lead.

Hargis, who had two of Southeastern's five hits in the opener, hit a one-out single before eventually scoring when Brock Hebert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Joe Sparacino, who earlier drew a walk, gave Southeastern a 4-3 lead when he scored on a wild pitch by SFA's Alex Mosier.

SFA tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh when Garrett Smith hit a two-out single to right, moved to second on a walk and scored on Jarid Scarafiotti's RBI single to left.

Brandon Efferson allowed one hit and fanned six in 4.2 innings of work, but walked seven batters and allowed a pair of earned runs before being replaced by Jason Greenleaf in the fifth. Greenleaf allowed three hits in a career-long 4.1 innings of action with a pair of strikeouts.

Aricizo, the fifth of six pitchers used by SFA, took the loss after allowing a run with four walks in 1.1 innings. Smith collected two of the Lumberjacks' four hits in the game while Hunter Dozier added an eighth-inning double.

GAME 2 – Southeastern 9, SFA 4
Southeastern scored twice in the first inning as Hebert and Cody Gougler each drew bases-loaded walks off SFA starter Justin Braddock (3-2) before taking a 4-3 lead in the second when Boudreaux hit a two-run double to left.

The Lions increased their lead to 6-3 with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth as Cryer hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Pace and Boudreaux scored on an RBI grounder by Hebert.

Watkins (9-3) scattered 11 hits and fanned four batters in 5.2 innings on the mound before Matt Pittari came on in the sixth and got Darren Crabtree to hit a soft liner to second after the Lumberjacks cut the lead to 6-4 on a solo home run by Chris Hernandez.

Freshman Dylan Hills relieved Pittari in the seventh and got Hernandez to fly out to right to end the inning before retiring the final four batters he faced to earn his first career save.

Pace, who recorded the first five-hit game by a Lion since Gougler went 5-for-5 last season at LSU, hit a two-run single to right off Chase Weir to give Southeastern an 8-4 lead. The Lions added an insurance run in the eighth when Hebert led off with a walk, stole second moved to third on a fielder's choice by Michael Rutland and scored on a fielder's choice by Hargis.

After getting a combined nine hits in the first game, both teams recorded 15 hits and a combined 25 men left on base. Jacob Fisher went 2-for-4 and scored twice for Southeastern, which closes out the regular-season at Northwestern State beginning Thursday.

Bryson Miles, the top hitter in the Southland Conference (.415) and national leader in stolen bases (43), went 4-for-5 for the Lumberjacks with a pair of doubles and a stolen base. Hernandez went 2-for-4 with two RBI for SFA while Braddock took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings.
