HAMMOND – Coming off a four-game series against Sacred Heart, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team returns to action on Wednesday when it faces in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette in a midweek contest at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Live statistics will be available at www.LionSports.net.

Playing its final midweek game before opening Southland Conference play on Friday at UTSA, Southeastern (8-4) closes out a five-game homestand against the rival Ragin Cajuns (7-4), which was scheduled to play at Northwestern State on Tuesday before the game was postponed due to rain.

Paced by Jeff Harkensee (.391-4-19) at the plate, Southeastern is averaging .298 and 7.3 runs as a team with nine home runs and a .411 team on-base percentage. Newcomer Jonathan Pace (.383-1-9) has hit safely in his last nine games – the current longest streak on the team – with Justin Boudreaux (.373-3-15), Cass Hargis (.365-0-10), Brock Hebert (.357-1-4) and Cody Gougler (.318-0-6) next in the lineup.

Southeastern will send southpaw Jordan Hymel (1-1, 1.35 ERA) to the mound with ULL slated to pitch right-hander Joe Zimmermann (0-0, 4.91 ERA).

The Ragin Cajuns have won five of their last six games beginning with a three-game sweep of Siena on Feb. 25-27. ULL added a 10-4 win over Southern on March 1 before splitting a doubleheader on Sunday at Southern Miss.

Greg Fontenot leads ULL at the plate with a .432 average. Tyler Frederick (.286-0-1), Ryan Leonards (.278-0-3), Matt Goulas (.273-1-3) and Alex Fuselier (.273-1-1) are next in hitting for the Cajuns with Jordan Poirrier leading the team in home runs (2) and RBI (10).
