HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team returns to the diamond for a pair of midweek games beginning Tuesday when the Lions travel to Baton Rouge to face in-state rival Southern University at Lee-Hines Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be televised live on Cox Sports Television (Charter Cable Channel 324; HD Channel 811). Twitter updates will be available at www.Twitter.com/sluathletics.
Southeastern (15-9) will close out its midweek schedule on Wednesday when it plays host to UNO in a 6 p.m. contest at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The UNO game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.
The Lions look to snap a two-game losing streak that included dropping their second Southland Conference series of the season at Central Arkansas. Southeastern committed 10 errors in the three-game series against the Bears and dropped a 5-4 12-inning decision on Saturday.
Justin Boudreaux (.414-5-26) leads Southeastern at the plate and is followed by
Jonathan Pace (.400-1-19), who enters the game with a 21-game hitting streak – one shy of tying the school record set by Gavin Fingleson in 1999.
Brock Hebert (.372-1-14),
Jeff Harkensee (.323-7-33),
Josh Cryer (.295-1-14),
Cass Hargis (.288-0-12) and
Cody Gougler (.278-1-11) are next at the plate for the Lions, who are hitting .300 as a team.
Sophomore left-hander
Jordan Hymel (2-2, 7.82 ERA) will start on the mound for Southeastern against Southern (14-8).
Southern, which is 10-0 at home, is hitting .321 as a team with Frazier Hall (.430-5-31) leading the way. Kevin Williams (.385-1-7), Wilmy Marrero (.373-2-21), Ozzie Lamis (.357-0-15) and Taylor Roy (.355-1-20) are part of a group of eight regulars hitting .300 or above for the Jaguars.
Belfred Pryer (2-2, 7.45 ERA) is expected to start for Southern.
UNO (1-22), which plays at nationally-ranked Tulane on Tuesday, has lost its last 21 games that included an 11-5 loss to the Lions last Tuesday. Southeastern collected 13 hits, including four by Pace with Cryer driving in four runs.
Nolan Church leads the Privateers at the plate with a .270 average, four home runs and 18 RBI. Chris Geronimo is next in hitting at .267. The Privateers are expected to send right-hander Corey Laudermill (0-1, 7.94 ERA) to the mound against Southeastern.
