Bullpen Does The Job As Lions Defeat New Orleans, 11-5

Southeastern collects 13 hits in first game against Privateers since 2005

HAMMOND – Jonathan Pace went 4-for-5 at the plate to extend his hitting streak to 18 games and Southeastern Louisiana got eight innings from its bullpen in an 11-5 victory over New Orleans Tuesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Justin Boudreaux added three hits and scored runs while Josh Cryer went 1-for-3 with four RBI as Southeastern (14-7) won its second straight game. UNO, which was playing Southeastern for the first time since April 26, 2005, dropped its 18th straight contest and fell to 1-19 overall.

Josh Janway (1-0) pitched five innings in relief for Southeastern before Jacob Ott, Jason Greenleaf and Stefan Lopez pitched the final three innings without allowing a hit. Janway allowed two hits and fanned four in earning his first victory of the year. UNO managed three base runners and failed to get a hit after Blake LeBlanc's two-out single in the fourth inning.

UNO opened the game with three straight hits and took a 1-0 lead when Nolan Church lifted a double to right field to drive in Beau Boudreaux. The Privateers added four runs in the second as they took advantage of a pair of Southeastern errors and led 5-2.

The Lions added a run in the third when Cryer's single up the middle scored Justin Boudreaux from third cut the UNO lead to 5-3. Southeastern scored three runs in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead as a Privateer error allowed Brock Hebert to score from third and Jeff Harkensee and Cryer followed with RBI groundouts.

Pace, who went 4-for-5 and matched Gavin Fingleson for the third-longest hitting streak in school history, drove in Hebert with an RBI single before Cryer added a sacrifice bunt up the first base line that scored two runs and gave the Lions a 9-5 lead.

Southeastern added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth when Hebert drove in Cody Gougler on a sacrifice fly and Pace followed with an RBI single to drive in Joe Sparacino.

Robert Ormsbee (0-4) took the loss for UNO after allowing five earned runs on eight hits. Blake LeBlanc led the Privateers at the plate going 2-for-4 while Andrew Garcia added an RBI single in the second.

Southeastern will return to Southland Conference action on Friday when it travels to Conway, Ark., to face Central Arkansas in a three-game series. First pitch in Friday's opener is at 6 p.m. followed by a Saturday contest at 2 p.m. the series finale on Sunday at 1.
