HAMMOND, La. – Major League Baseball's 2020 Summer Camp presented by Camping World opens Wednesday and three former Southeastern Louisiana pitchers will be among those participating.
Wade Miley (Cincinnati Reds), Kyle Keller (Los Angeles Angels) and Josh Green (Arizona Diamondbacks) were each listed on their respective teams' official 60 player pool.
Under temporary rules enacted for the upcoming pandemic-shortened season, players listed on the pool list are the only ones eligible for Major League action during the 2020 season. Following an abbreviated camp period, the Major League Baseball season is slated to get underway either July 23 or July 24.
Wade Miley (Cincinnati Reds)
A member of the Southeastern Hall of Fame and the Southland Conference Hall of Honor, Miley signed with the Reds as free agent this winter after posting a 14-6 record and 3.98 ERA in 33 starts for the National League Champion Houston Astros. He ranked third on the Astros' squad in wins, innings pitched (167.1) and strikeouts (140). The native of Loranger, Louisiana is the 2008 Southland strikeout leader and ranks in the Top-10 of at least five career statistical categories at Southeastern.
Kyle Keller (Los Angeles Angels)
Keller was traded to the Angels on Jan. 6 after averaging better than a strikeout per inning during his MLB debut season with the Miami Marlins in 2019. The hard-throwing righty punched out 11 batters through 10.2 innings in 10 appearances at the Major League level. He was also 2-3 with 73 strikeouts in 54 innings across 37 appearances with Triple-A New Orleans and his 10 saves were second on the team. The native of New Orleans, Louisiana was a key member of Southeastern's 2014 Southland Conference Tournament Championship and 2015 Southland Regular-Season Championship squads.
Josh Green (Arizona Diamondbacks)
Arizona's No. 16 prospect, and the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year, went a combined 11-5 with a 2.71 ERA and 101 strikeouts through 126.1 innings in 2019. Green made 14 of his 22 starts for Advanced-A Visalia, where he led the California League in wins at 9-1 and ranked second in ERA (1.73) before his July 12 promotion to Double-A Jackson (Tenn.). He then helped lead Jackson to the Southern League title. The native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana was a member of Southeastern's 2015 Southland Conference Regular-Season Championship squad.
