HAMMOND, La. – The defending Southland Conference champions, Southeastern Louisiana University and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, square off in a high-profile conference series this weekend at UTRGV Baseball Stadium in Edinburg, Texas.
 
Friday's series opener against UTRGV (16-20, 10-11 SLC) is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU and marks the Southland's first regular-season conference baseball game to air on national television. The remaining two games, Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., are slated for coverage on ESPN+.

Peyton Woods (.347-4-15), Justin Williams (.304-9-30) and Southland Conference Hitter of the Week Ben Robichaux (.291-9-30) are the Lions' leading hitters.
 
Despite dropping its most recent game Tuesday at Tulane, SLU has won 10 of its last 13 games. UTRGV has won back-to-back games following a stretch in which it lost nine of 10.
 
Thomas Williams (.328-3-20), Rocco Garza Gongora (.306-4-19) and Armani Raygoza (.301-11-34) lead the Vaqueros' offense.
 
Last season, both teams finished atop the Southland standings with identical 22-8 conference records. SLU won the regular-season series, two games to one in Hammond.
