HAMMOND, La. – The 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by Spectrum is one of the largest collegiate track and field meets in the country, with more than 7,700 athletes scheduled to compete in Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Among those athletes are a select group from Southeastern Louisiana, ready to show they have the ability to compete with the best in the country.
"This is an exciting event, probably the biggest meet on our schedule this year in terms of number of universities and crowd size and TV coverage," Southeastern head coach
Sean Brady said. "It's a really competitive event, one of the four biggest meets in the country this year, and it's an opportunity for us to go show off some of our better athletes. We have some pretty good guys who are going to represent the university this weekend and I think after Saturday evening, we are going to be very pleased with our results."

Action at the Relays began Wednesday with the multi events. Southeastern will begin competing in the field events Thursday at 11 a.m. and the track events at 4:30 p.m. Friday's action opens with the field events at 9 a.m. and the track events at 9:35 a.m. Track events start off Saturday's final-day action at 8:15 a.m., with the field events starting at 9:30 a.m.
Southeastern will have a trio of individuals and one relay competing who are ranked in the top 20 nationally. Senior
Alex Young, who was named both the USTFCCCA Division I Men's National Athlete of the Week and the Southland Conference Men's Athlete of the Week, has the top-ranked hammer throw and is ranked 33
rd in the shot put. Junior
Devin King, who set the school record in winning the pole vault at the Texas Relays in 2016, is ranked No. 2 in the country. Senior
Andre Colebrook comes in at No. 13 in the 400-meter hurdles. And the 4x400-meter relay of Colebrook, seniors

Deandre Henderson and
Ashley Riley and junior
Dontrell Lyons, is ranked 11
th nationally.
Also scheduled to compete on the men's side for the Lions are Henderson and junior Cliff Resais in the 100-meter dash; senior
Dwayne Woodard in the 400 hurdles; senior
Harry Wiggins in the 1,500; junior
Marcell Kecskemety in the shot put; senior
Gennard Paul in the javelin; and the 4x100 relay of Bowleg, Riley, Henderson, Resais and Lyons.
Freshman
Ashley Davis, ranked 31
st in the shot put; and senior
Addie Shafer, 53
rd in the javelin, are scheduled to compete for the Lady Lions.
Southeastern will also bring a group of 25 athletes on Friday to the Mississippi College Mike McMillan Invitational in Clinton, Mississippi. Field events start at 1 p.m. with the women's and men's 5,000 meters getting underway at 2:30 p.m. All other track events start at 4 p.m. Results will be available at www.LionSports.net.
"It's a great opportunity for our kids to get better in a very relaxed, low-stress environment, so I'm expecting some good things to happen there as well," Brady said.
After this weekend, Southeastern will compete in the McNeese Spring Time Classic in Lake Charles on Saturday, April 8.
