SLU’s Favour Breaks 13-Year School Record Saturday

Southeastern competed in Baton Rouge and Lafayette in the second week of the season

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams competed at the LSU Opener in Baton Rouge and the LA Classics in Lafayette, La., for the second meet of the outdoor season.
 
Onyah Favour earned silver in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.73, breaking a school record of 13 years. After the conclusion of Saturday's meet, Favour's 2:11.73 is 41st among all NCAA Division I student-athletes. Bailey Babin and Julia Jenkins notched bronze performances for the women's field team. Babin's javelin throw of 33.33 meters (109'4") was third among three competitors in the event Saturday. Jenkins' third-place mark of 5.46 meters (17'10") in the long jump was the first outdoor competition of her collegiate career.
 
Gerrit Visser placed second for the Lions in the hammer throw, posting a 59.19-meter (194'2") performance. Donald Butler placed third in the high jump, notching a career-best jump of 2.10 meters (6'10"). Josh-Ty Brown also medaled, placing third in the shot put. Brown's toss of 17.08 meters (56') is a career-best performance.
 
In Lafayette, Trey Faherty placed third in the pole vault at the LA Classics on the campus of the University of Louisiana Lafayette. The Covington, La. native notched a personal-best mark of 4.60 meters (15'1").
 
At LSU, Daniel Atinaya recorded personal-best marks in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash events. The sophomore placed fifth in the 200-meter dash, getting a time of 21.17. In the 400-meter dash, Atinaya took fourth with a time of 47.32. Micah Miller's discus throw of 51.14 meters (167'9") was a personal best, taking fifth in the event. In the women's hammer throw, Jaydan Jackson posted a personal-best of 48.74 meters (159'10"), placing seventh.
 
Southeastern will travel to the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, with competition beginning on Wednesday, Apr. 1.
