UCA Welcomes Southeastern for Southland Matchup

Tip off on Saturday set for 2 p.m.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will return to the road when it travels to Central Arkansas for a 2 p.m. Southland Conference contest on Saturday in the Farris Center.
 
The game between the Lady Lions (4-17, 2-8 Southland) and the host Sugar Bears (16-4, 8-2 Southland) can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the TuneIn Radio app. Live video and stats, provided by host UCA, will be accessible on the women's basketball schedule page at LionSports.net.
 
Southeastern will be looking to shake off a 76-60 loss to Nicholls. The Colonels overcame a six-point halftime deficit, outscoring the Lady Lions, 45-23, in the second half.
 
SLU dished out a season-high 19 assists in Wednesday's loss, as junior guard Taylin Underwood tied a career-high with eight assists. However, Southeastern could not overcome 31 turnovers and all five Nicholls starters reaching double figures.
 
The lone Lady Lion in double figures versus Nicholls was freshman guard Charliee Dugas, who scored 16 points. Senior forward Chey Stewart finished with a team-high eight rebounds, as SLU finished with a 40-34 rebounding advantage. Dugas, Underwood and sophomore guard Jaclyn Scholvin shared team-high honors with two steals each.
 
Southeastern is averaging 62.8 points and committing 22.0 turnovers per game heading into Saturday's game. Underwood leads the team with 17.5 points per game and is third in school history with 147 career three-point field goals. Underwood is joined in double figures by Dugas, who is averaging 10.1 points per contest.
 
Junior guard Bre Warren (6.2 ppg), freshman guard Tyler Morrison (6.0 ppg), freshman guard Taz Stinson (5.9 ppg), Stewart (5.8 ppg) and sophomore guard Ashailee Brailey (5.8 ppg) are the other top scorers. Morrison (3.6 apg) and Underwood (3.4 ppg) are the top playmakers for the Lady Lions.
 
Though SLU has outrebounded its past two opponents, but enters the trip to Conway with a minus-12.6 rebounding margin. Morrison tops the squad with 5.5 rebounds per game.
 
Opponents are scoring 81.9 points and committing 19.7 turnovers per game versus Southeastern. Dugas leads the team with 35 steals, followed closely by Warren (33) and Underwood (29).
 
Central Arkansas has overcome a 1-2 start to Southland Conference play by ripping off seven consecutive victories heading into Saturday's matchup. On Tuesday, the Sugar Bears shot 58.0 percent (29-for-50) from the floor and held McNeese to 30.6 percent (19-for-62) shooting in a 72-49 road win over the Cowgirls.
 
In the victory in Lake Charles, Maggie Proffitt made six three-point field goals on the way to a game-high 22 points. Taylor Baudoin chipped in with 16 points, while Briana Mullins narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds to go with her team-high five assists.
 
Proffitt (14.3 ppg), Kierra Jordan (14.2 ppg) and Baudoin (10.4 ppg) are the top scorers for Central Arkansas. Raquel Logan leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per contest, while Mullins is averaging a team-high 4.1 assists per outing. Opponents are scoring just 52.1 points per game versus the Sugar Bears.
 
Saturday will mark the 21st all-time meeting between the two league foes and the first this season, as UCA returns the trip to Hammond on Feb. 22. Central Arkansas has won the last five games between the two schools, including a season sweep in 2015-16.
 
Following the trip, Southeastern will play four of its next five games in the friendly confines of the University Center. The stretch opens with a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Wednesday will feature the annual Pack the House promotion as the first 300 students will receive free food and a SLU rally towel.
 
Underwood will be Wednesday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Livingston, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.
 
It will also be a Cane's Challenge when the Islanders visit the University Center. If the Lady Lions score 50 points or more, fans can take their game ticket or student coupon to their local participating Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers by the close of business on Thursday to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
