BATON ROUGE, La. – It was another record-setting night for Southeastern Louisiana senior
Andre Colebrook and sophomore
Rodney Ruffin at the LSU Bayou Bengal Invitational Friday at the LSU Carl Maddox Field House.
Colebrook broke the Lions' 800-meter indoor record for the second straight year at the meet, while Ruffin broke his high jump record in winning an event for the fifth straight meet to open the 2017 season.
Southeastern also got victories from junior pole vaulter
Devin King and its distance medley relay.
"The meet started off pretty slow and then it heated up and got better and better as the day went on," Southeastern head coach
Sean Brady said. "Three real standouts today were
Andre Colebrook,
Rodney Ruffin and
Devin King. Andre is running really well right now with confidence. Rodney continued his streak of victories. He had a good day long jumping and a great day high jumping. And Devin in the pole vault moved up in the national list which is what he needed to do. We got through this week and we've been pretty sick and we just wanted to come into this meet and see how we were doing with our group and I thought it was a success."
Colebrook captured the 800 in 1 minute, 51.50 seconds, breaking his own school mark of 1:52.09 set at the 2016 Southland Conference Championships. The time, which has not been converted from a flat track, is the second-fastest in the Southland in 2017. Colebrook had run a then-school record 1:52.87 at the 2016 Bayou Bengal.
Ruffin cleared 7 feet, 1.5 inches to eclipse the indoor school record of 7-0.5 he set earlier this season at the LSU Purple Tiger. That mark is tied for tied for 15
th. Ruffin now has three high jump and a pair of long jump titles in 2017.
Ruffin earlier finished second in the long jump at 23-10.25. Senior

King cleared 17-10.50 inches to repeat as the Bayou Bengal pole vault champion. King had also set a then-school record at last year's meet with a vault of 17-05.5. His mark is tied for seventh in the country to date.
