CHOUDRANT, La. – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore
William Meyers fired a 1-over-par 145 to lead the Lions on the opening day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate Monday at Squire Creek Country Club.
Meyers, coming off the best round of his career, a 2-under 71 at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, opened with an even-par 72 before shooting a 1-over 73 in the afternoon round. He is currently in a five-way tie for 16
th.
Southeastern stands seventh after two rounds at 14-over 590. The Lions completed the first round at 5-over 293 before closing with a 9-over 297. Louisiana-Monroe finished at 3-under 573 to lead Central Arkansas by a stroke. Lamar is third at 3-over 579 with Houston Baptist and Southern Mississippi tied for fourth at 4-over 580. Western Kentucky is sixth at 8-over 584.
"It was OK," said Southeastern head coach
Jake Narro, whose squad was at 3-over at one point during the second round. "We let it slip a little bit at the end of the second round and put us back a spot or two. But we still have an opportunity to get in the top five which is good. We have one more day and it's time to break out and have a real good day.
Lamar's Zander Gous leads the individual race after shooting an 8-under 136 which included an 8-under 64 first round. Western Kentucky's Billy Tom Sargent is four back at 4-under 140.

Meyers began his day with a birdie on the par-5 ninth, then added birdies on the par-5 11
th and par-4 14
th to make the turn at 3-under. He bogeyed the first hole before coming back with a birdie on the par-5 second. He finished the round with bogeys on four, six and eight.
Meyers again birdied the ninth to open the second round. He bogeyed number 13 and 15 before birdieing the par-3 16
th. After a bogey on No. 17, he birdied the second hole again to get back even before bogeying the sixth.
Sophomore
Bailey Smith, playing as a non-scoring individual, is tied with Meyers for 16
th after shooting a career-best 3-under 69 in the second round. The bogey-free round tied for the third best on the day and featured birdies on numbers two, four and 11. He had opened with a 4-over 76 that included birdies on numbers two, seven and nine.
Seniors
Paul Obermann and
James Anstiss are in an eight-way tie for 29
th at 4-over 148. Obermann bogeyed the 12
th in the first round before getting even with a birdie at No. 2. He bogeyed the fourth and sixth to finish the morning round at 2-over 74. Obermann bogeyed the eighth, ninth and 13
th to start the second round but responded with an eagle on the second. He bogeyed the fourth to record his second-straight 2-over 74.
Anstiss started the day with bogeys on 12, 13, 15, 16 and 5 before recording birdies at six and nine for a 3-over 75. He bogeyed 10 and 15 in the second round before birdieing the 18
th and first holes. He bogeyed No. 5 before birdieing the sixth and bogeying the ninth for a 1-over 73.
Senior
Gustavo Leon is in a pack of six at 36th at 5-over 149. Leon opened with birdies at 14, 17, two and nine on his way to an even-par first round. He got to 1-under with a birdie at No. 10 to start the second round and added a pair at 17 and 18. He birdied the second on his way to a 5-over 77.
Sophomore
Joris Etlin is in a sixth-way tie for 48
th at 9-over 153. He finished the first round strong with birdies at one, six, eight and nine to shoot a 3-over 75 before recording a 6-over 78 in the afternoon.
