SLU's Young, Kinchen, Frazier Compete at NCAA Championships

Trio to represent university at highest level

EUGENE, Oregon – Southeastern Louisiana junior Alex Young, senior Jonathan Kinchen and junior Misha Frazier will test their skills against the nation's elite at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which open Wednesday at Hayward Field.
 
All three SLU student-athletes will compete in the hammer throw. On Wednesday, Young and Kinchen will compete in the men's event at 3:30 p.m. (CDT). Frazier will represent the Lady Lions on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the women's event. Live results, provided by the NCAA, will be available at www.LionSports.net and both events will be broadcast on ESPN3.
 
SLU and Sam Houston State are tied for the Southland Conference lead with three representatives. The Bearkats will be represented by Danielle Demas (women's 100-meter hurdles), Ashley Jenkins (women's hammer throw) and Matthew Viverette (men's 100-meter hurdles).
 
A total of nine Southland Conference student-athletes will compete in Eugene. League outdoor champion Stephen F. Austin will bring Demi Payne (women's pole vault) and Josh Taylor (men's 400-meter hurdles). Northwestern State's Ashley Aldredge will represent the Lady Demons in the women's javelin.
 
Young earned a spot in the national meet with a sixth-place finish at last month's NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Florida. The Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year recorded a throw of 216 feet, four inches (65.94 meters) – his best of the season.
 
Kinchen, the Southland Conference champion in the hammer throw, finished 11th in Jacksonville. The Ponchatoula, Louisiana native qualified with a throw of 212-7 (64.81 m).
 
Frazier also finished 11th in the event in Jacksonville. The Kenner, Louisiana native was among the top 12 women at the regional with a throw of 190-0 (57.92 m).
