Houston, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field teams made a strong showing at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet on Saturday, hosted by Rice.
The Lions claimed two events in Houston, as well as posting over a dozen top-three finishes.
Junior
Jonathan Kinchen claimed the men's hammer throw event with a toss of 66.81 meters.
"Jonathan did really well," said assistant coach
Lucais MacKay. "His throw today was a personal best, and it puts him in 9
th in the East region and 14
th overall in the NCAA."
Freshman
Devin King claimed the men's pole vault event for the second week in a row, posting a first place mark of 5.22 meters.
In the men's 400-meter dash, junior
Ashley Riley placed second (47.06), while
Andre Colbrook came in third in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.56. The men's 4x100-meter relay team came in second in their event, posting a time of 40.18.
Two Lions stood on the podium for the men's high jump event, as
Kadarius Williams placing second (2.06 m) and
Clarence Robinson placing third (2.06 m).
In the men's shot throwing events, the Lions kicked off the day by landing four athletes in the top ten of the shot put event. Junior
Alex Young led the pack, placing second (16.87m).
Jimmy LeBlanc (15.94),
Jonathan Kinchen (15.86), and
Brett Olsen (15.21) placed sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
Olsen came in second in the men's discus throw with a toss of 52.08 meters. Young finished right behind in third with a distance (51.39). In the hammer throw, Young and Olsen finished right behind Kinchen in second (62.99) and fourth (58.01) respectively. Senior
Derek Hampton placed third in the men's javelin throw with a toss of 63.65 meters.
On the women's side,
Markeisha Jack placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.51.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team came in second with a time of 45.87.
In the field events, Sharon-Ann Ourso came in third in the pole vault with a height of 3.89 meters. Junior
Misha Frazier came in third in both the women's discus throw (44.34 meters) and hammer throw (57.84 meters) events.
Freshman Nicole Delesderneir came in third in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 39.45 meters.
Southeastern returns to action at home, as the Lions are set to host the 2015 Southland Conference Track and Field Championships on May 8-10
