SLU Heads to ACU to Open Road Swing

Lady Lions look for first road victory

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will open a three-game road swing on Saturday, when it travels to Abilene Christian for a 2 p.m. Southland Conference contest at Moody Coliseum.

The game between the Lady Lions (7-13, 3-6 Southland) and the host Wildcats (11-10, 3-7 Southland) will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net, where live stats and live video – provided by ACU – will also be accessible.

Southeastern enters the second half of its Southland Conference schedule a game and a half out of the top eight, as the top eight will advance to the league tournament next month in Katy, Texas. For SLU to get back into tournament contention, the Lady Lions will have to undo its struggles on the road, as Southeastern is 0-9 away from home this season and has six of the last nine games outside of the University Center.

The Lady Lions will be looking to bounce back from a 60-48 loss to Central Arkansas on Saturday. Junior forward Nanna Pool posted her ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while senior guard Symone Miller, playing for the first time since Dec. 29, chipped in 11 points.

Miller leads the team with 13.5 points per game. The Gonzales, Louisiana native is joined in double figures by Pool (11.8 ppg) and senior guard Elizabeth Styles (10.8 ppg). Miller (43 points away) and Styles (63) are both closing in on 1,000 career points.

Styles is also the engineer of the Southeastern offense, leading the league with 6.3 assists per game. She is fifth in school history with 442 career assists and has a chance to become the first player in school history to top both 1,000 career points and 500 career assists.

Southeastern features two of the top rebounders in the Southland in Pool (9.6 rpg, 2nd) and senior forward Jameika Hoskins (7.7 rpg, 9th). Pool's 674 career rebounds is eighth in school history.

Pool also leads the team with 22 blocked shots. Styles (31) and Hoskins (29) are the team leaders in steals.

The entire ACU starting lineup is averaging double figures. Sophomore center Shelby Shelstead leads the team with 12.4 points per game, followed by sophomore guard Alexis Mason (11.5 ppg), sophomore forward Suzzy Dimba (11.2 ppg), junior guard Whitney West (10.9 ppg) and sophomore forward Lizzy Dimba (10.9 ppg). Shelstead (8.9 rpg), Suzzy Dimba (8.4 rpg) and Lizzy Dimba (7.6 rpg) are the team's top rebounders, while Suzzy Dima leads the team with 3.0 assists per game.

The series between the Lady Lions and ACU is tied, 1-1. Last season in Hammond, ACU earned a 96-82 victory.

Following Saturday's game, Southeastern will travel to McNeese State for a 7 p.m. contest in Lake Charles. The game will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net.
