SLU Looks to Pack the House Versus UCA

Lady Lions attempts further climb up Southland Standings

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will host Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas in the annual Pack the House game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the University Center.
 
Through the Pack the House promotion, the first 250 students to the game between the Lady Lions (7-12, 3-5 Southalnd) and the visiting Sugar Bears (11-9, 4-4 Southland) will receive free t-shirts courtesy of Southeastern Athletics. The contest will close out a four-game home stand for Southeastern.
 
UCA's visit will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net, where live stats and live video (LionVision subscription required) will be accessible. SLU junior forward Nanna Pool will be Wednesday's Spotlight Player of the Game and the first 100 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Magnolia, Mississippi native courtesy of PRIDE.
 
Wednesday is also Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day, as SLU faculty and staff will receive free admission to the contest with valid Southeastern ID. It will also be a Cane's Challenge Night at the UC, as if the Lady Lions score 60 points or more, fans will be able to take their ticket or coupon to participating Raising Cane's in the area to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
 
The Lady Lions snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday with a 58-52 win over then-league leader Northwestern State. Pool came off the bench with her eighth double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds, as SLU finished with a 45-32 advantage on the boards. Making her first career start, sophomore forward Dani Fielder posted career highs with nine points and eight rebounds.
 
Senior guard Elizabeth Styles and junior guard Erica Hernandez each added nine points apiece. Styles was the catalyst of the offensive effort, dishing out a season-high 11 assists.
 
Senior guard Symone Miller, who has missed all eight Southland games, leads the team with 13.7 points per game. She is joined in double figures by Pool (11.8 ppg) and Styles (11.0 ppg). In league play, Hernandez is averaging a team-best 12.0 points per game. Both Miller (54 points away) and Styles (69 points) are closing in on 1,000 career points.
 
Styles also leads the Southland and ranks 12th nationally with 6.4 assists per game. She is fifth in school history with 438 career assists and has a chance to become the first player as a Lady Lion to top both 1,000 career points and 500 career assists.
 
Pool is tied for second in the league with 9.5 rebounds per game. Pool, who is eighth in school history with 663 career rebounds, is joined among the league rebounding leaders by senior forward Jameika Hoskins (7.7 rpg, 10th).
 
Styles (31) and Hoskins (29) are the team leaders in steals. Pool's 20 blocked shots also are a team-high.
 
Central Arkansas will be back in action for the first time in a week after defeating Northwestern State, 63-46, last Wednesday, in Conway, Arkansas. Sophomore guard Maggie Proffitt leads the team with 13.5 points per game, followed by junior guard Kendara Watts (11.7 ppg) and sophomore guard Brianna Mullins (10.3 ppg). Mullins also leads the team with 3.0 assists per game, while sophomore guard Kelsey McClure has a team-high 5.4 rebounds per contest.
 
Southeastern is 7-9 all-time versus UCA. Last season in Conway, UCA defeated SLU, 80-70, despite 18 points from then-senior forward Aja Gibson.
 
On Saturday, SLU will start a stretch of three consecutive road games. The Lady Lions will head to Abilene, Texas for a 2 p.m. Southland contest. The game will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net.
