Birmingham, Alabama – Southeastern Louisiana University's group of male throwers swept the men's weight throw event, while two school records were also broken at the UAB Vulcan Invitational on Friday.
Junior
Jonathan Kinchen won the men's weight throw, tossing for the top distance of sixty-seven feet, 2.29 inches. Finishing right behind were junior
Alex Young (65-6.21) and senior
Brett Olsen (61-11.69), who finished second and third respectively.
"Coach MacKay is doing an excellent job managing that group," said head coach
Sean Brady. "They're a talented group of guys that are really starting to gel as a unit."
All five of the male throwers finished in the top ten in the weight throw event, as
Jimmy LeBlanc (55-7.32) placed 5
th and
Austin Funk (50-11.41) placed 9
th. Young also placed second in the men's shot put competition with a mark of fifty-three feet, 10.45 inches.
Junior
Ashley Riley set a new school record in the men's 400-meter dash. In his first run in this event as a Lion, the Nassau, Bahamas native placed second with a time of 48.40.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team set a new school record in their respective event, turning in the 4
th place time of 3:57.44.
Domonique White,
Vanessa Williams,
Bayleigh Butler, and
Kayla Quincy combined to break the previous record of 3:57.78 that was set in 2011.
Freshman
Devin King won the men's pole vault event for the second time this season. The Kentwood native turned in a winning height of sixteen feet, 4.85 inches.
On the women's side,
Ikea Kaufman placed third in the women's high jump. The senior turned in a mark of 5-2.59.
Other top finishers for the men's team were:

Kadarius Williams (men's high jump, 2
nd place, 6-4.77)
