Southeastern Shines at Vulcan Invitational

Birmingham, Alabama – Southeastern Louisiana University's group of male throwers swept the men's weight throw event, while two school records were also broken at the UAB Vulcan Invitational on Friday.

Junior Jonathan Kinchen won the men's weight throw, tossing for the top distance of sixty-seven feet, 2.29 inches. Finishing right behind were junior Alex Young (65-6.21) and senior Brett Olsen (61-11.69), who finished second and third respectively.

"Coach MacKay is doing an excellent job managing that group," said head coach Sean Brady. "They're a talented group of guys that are really starting to gel as a unit."

All five of the male throwers finished in the top ten in the weight throw event, as Jimmy LeBlanc (55-7.32) placed 5th and Austin Funk (50-11.41) placed 9th. Young also placed second in the men's shot put competition with a mark of fifty-three feet, 10.45 inches.

Junior Ashley Riley set a new school record in the men's 400-meter dash. In his first run in this event as a Lion, the Nassau, Bahamas native placed second with a time of 48.40.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team set a new school record in their respective event, turning in the 4th place time of 3:57.44. Domonique White, Vanessa Williams, Bayleigh Butler, and Kayla Quincy combined to break the previous record of 3:57.78 that was set in 2011.
