CONWAY, Ark. – Southeastern Louisiana and Central Arkansas renew their Southland Conference rivalry this weekend with a three-game series at Bear Stadium. Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
All three games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Southeastern (18-11, 5-4 Southland), which has won its last two games, is coming off a 20-4 win over Alcorn State. Junior catcher
Sam Roberson tied the school single-game record for runs scored (five) and was 3-for-5 at the plate, finishing a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
In addition to Roberson's record-setting night, highlights included the first home run of
Kennon Menard's career, Roberson's first home run of the season and
Daniel Midyett's perfect night at the plate (3-for-3) to go with five RBIs.
Jameson Fisher (.381), Roberson (.364), Midyett (.356) and
Andrew Godbold (.340) lead Southeastern at the plate.
Brett Hoffman, who owns a 12-game hitting streak, leads the team with eight doubles. Godbold has a team-high three home runs and 27 RBIs.
The Lions are hitting .284 as team and have been successful on 46-of-73 stolen base attempts. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 3.01 ERA, fanning 212 batters in 260 innings pitched.
Junior right-hander
Andro Cutura (4-1, 2.72) earns the series opening start for Southeastern. Saturday the Lions will send sophomore right-hander
Tate Scioneaux (5-1, 2.34) to the mound. Senior right-hander
Sean Kennel (3-2, 2.70) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Sunday's series finale.
Central Arkansas (16-10, 5-4 Southland) has won its last two games and is coming off a 5-4 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock in 11 innings.
Doug Votolato (.359) and Nate Ferrell (.322) lead the Bears at the plate. Tyler Langley leads the team with eight doubles and three triples, and is tied with Wesley Hoover for the team lead in home runs (two). Chris Townsend has driven in a team-best 24 runs.
UCA is hitting .258 as a team and has been successful on 26-of-34 stolen base attempts. The Bears' pitching staff has compiled a 4.05 ERA, fanning 157 batters in 244.1 innings pitched.
Last season the teams split four games. The Lions took 2-of-3 from UCA in Conway with all three games decided by one run. The Bears defeated Southeastern, 4-0, in the Southland Conference Tournament championship game.
Southeastern returns home Tuesday at 6 p.m. to host the Tulane Green Wave at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
