Several key performances pace Southeastern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HAMMOND, La. – Clawing back after dropping the series opener in extra innings, the Southeastern Louisiana baseball team swept a Southland Conference doubleheader Saturday against Lamar at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Southeastern (11-8, 2-1 Southland) got key performances from Tate Scioneaux, Mason Klotz and Sam Roberson, as well as first-time starters Kennon Menard and Daniel Midyett, in the 4-2 and 7-6 victories.

In the opener, Scioneaux (4-0) tossed a complete game to snap the Lions three-game losing streak and even the series at one game each with the 4-2 win. Roberson had his first two hits since returning to the lineup after missing almost one month. Midyett produced the first mult-hit game of his career and drove in a pair of runs, while Menard picked up a hit and scored a key run late.

Roberson turned in another multi-hit performance in the second game as the Lions knocked off Lamar (13-8, 1-2 Southland), 7-6. Midyett cleared the bases with a two-out, three-run double in the sixth and Menard worked a bases-loaded walk in Southeastern's four-run first.

The Lions travel Tuesday to Tulane for a 6:30 p.m. contest at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. It will be the first of three meetings this season between Southeastern and the Green Wave.

Game One – Southeastern Louisiana 4, Lamar 2
Southeastern picked up a pair of runs in the second off Cardinal starting pitcher Chase Angelle (1-3) and added another in the third.

Roberson singled to right with out in the second, moving to second base on Brett Hoffman's single up the middle. A balk by Angelle moved both runners into scoring position for Midyett, who singled past the first baseman to drive in both runners with two outs.

Kyle Cedotal reached on an error by the first baseman to lead off the third inning. He moved up to third when Lamar third baseman Reed Seeley mishandled Jacob Seward's sacrifice bunt, scoring on Jameson Fisher's single to right.

Scioneaux scattered seven hits over the course of nine innings, allowing single runs in the fourth and seventh innings, while walking a pair and fanning six batters. It was the first complete game of his career.

Game Two – Southeastern Louisiana 7 – Lamar 6
The Cardinals took an early lead, knocking in a first-inning run off Southeastern starting pitcher Kyle Keller (2-0), but the Lions responded by chasing Lamar starter Brent Janak (3-1) in the bottom half of the inning.

Southeastern produced four runs in the first on just two hits, taking advantage of a pair of walks, as well as three hit batters, by Janak and reliever Jasyon McKinley.

Janak hit Cedotal to open the inning and Seward sacrificed him to second. With two outs, Cedotal scored on Andrew Godbold's single to left-center field. Roberson drew a walk and Hoffman singled to right, driving in Godbold.

Lamar brought in McKinley who threw a wild pitch, plating Roberson, before hitting both Brooks Morse and Midyett. Menard drew a walk to force in Hoffman for the final run of the inning.

In the fifth, Midyett followed back-to-back singles by Roberson and Hoffman, as well as a walk to Morse, with a double into the left-center gap to clear the bases.

Klotz earned his first save of the season with three innings of shutout relief, allowing one hit and fanning a pair of batters.
