Southeastern Athletes Set Season, Personal Bests At Samford

Baker wins women's javelin throw for second-straight week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second straight week, Southeastern Louisiana University athletes posted season and personal bests Saturday at the Samford Open.

Southeastern claimed victory in one event, set four season bests and established six PRs.

Jenna Baker, a junior from Mandeville, La., won the women's javelin throw with a mark of 133 feet, three inches.

Men's javelin thrower Derek Hampton finished second (216-05) to New Orleans' Matti Mortimore, who broke the facility record with a throw of 230-02. Casey Revere finished fourth (194-10), Collin Rowland ninth (168-03) and Andrew Bridge 12th (159-03). Revere and Bridge each established personal records.

Jonathan Kinchen placed second in the men's hammer throw (203-05) to Alabama's Elias Hakansson, who also broke the facility record with a mark of 211-04. Kinchen PRed as did Jeffrey Milliron en route to a sixth-place mark (185-08).

Milliron placed third in the men's shot put (52-11.00) while Kinchen finished fifth (49-01.50). Kinchen also finished seventh in the men's discus throw (154-05).

Vance Law and Kevin Dorhauer tied each other for third in the men's pole vault (15-07.00), with Dorhauer tying a personal best. Lady Lion Brittany Pfantz placed third in the women's pole vault (12-11.50) turning in her best mark of the season. Sharon Ann Ourso finished eighth (11-11.75) and Mallory Allphin came in 14th (10-00.00).

Jessica Fekete finished fifth in the women's hammer throw (175-05) and turned in a season-best effort in the women's shot put (38-02.25) to finish 11th.

Tarvoris Mack finished sixth in the men's 110-meter hurdles (16.01 seconds) while Joseph Edwards finished seventh in the men's 1,500-meter run (4:23.68) and 16th in the men's 800-meter run (2:05.59).

Brianna Golden turned in her best mark of the season in the women's discus throw to finish eighth (130-02) and came in 14th in the women's hammer throw (143-01).

Amber Darville finished 10th in the women's hammer throw (150-11) with a PR, 13th in the women's shot put (37-05.25) and 21st in the women's discus throw (92-05) with her best mark of the season.

Southeastern takes a week off from competition to prepare for the upcoming Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Lake Charles, La., May 10-12.
