LAKE CHARLES, La. –
The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team claimed victory in four events Friday at the McNeese Indoor I Invitational.

Southeastern swept the 55-meter dash competition as Nia Stewart completed the event in a Lady Lion-record 7.12 seconds while T.J. Herbert wrapped up the men's portion of the competition (6.40). Junior Brandon Daniels outlept everyone in the men's long jump with a distance of 24 feet, 3.75 inches.

“I think Brandon Daniels has worked himself into one of the best long jump athletes in the southland,” head coach Sean Brady said.

The throwing duo of Jonathan Kinchen and Jeffrey Milliron turned in strong performances for the Southeastern men. Kinchen won the shot put (54-00.50) competition and placed fifth in the weight throw (56-06.50). Milliron finished second in the shot put (51-01.50) and third in the weight throw (58-03.75).

Phillippe Moore finished second to Daniels in the long jump (23-08.00) while Abram Taylor finished the 55-meter hurdles in 7.68 seconds, also placing second. Johnel Reams turned in the third-best performance in the men's high jump (6-02.00).

The Lions' distance medley team of Harry Wiggins, Shaquell Windley, Christian Chapman and Joseph LeGrange placed third (12:08.27).

On the women's side, Tess Mullings (55-meter hurdles, 8.48 sec.), Stewart (long jump, 19-02.50) and Larrion Weatherspoon (high jump, 4-09.75) joined the Lady Lion distance medley team (13:15.20) in placing third at their respective events. The medley team consisted of Heather Fitzhenry, Domonique White, Lindsey Toups and Bethany Burst.

In mid-distance events, Alicia Noel finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:32.60) and  Fitzhenry placed fifth in the one-mile run (5:37.31).

“I feel good, but not great,” Brady said. “I'm kind of lukewarm. We had people that showed up in spots. It looked like out upperclassmen competed well, but the underclassmen looked like they had first meet jitters.”

Saturday Southeastern pole vaulters will compete at the UCS Spirit National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. Action at the Reno Livestock Events Center begins at 8:30 p.m.
