HUNTSVILLE, Texas –
Brock Hebert lined a one-out single to right field in the 10th inning that lifted Southeastern Louisiana to a 5-4 win over Sam Houston State in a Southland Conference game Friday at Don Sanders Stadium.

Brandon Efferson pitched nine innings and allowed two earned runs as Southeastern (29-15, 13-9 SLC) won its first extra inning game since defeating UTSA in the 2009 Southland Conference Tournament.

The series resumes on Saturday in a 2 p.m. contest. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

The Lions led 4-2 after six innings before SHSU (28-16, 12-10 SLC) scored a run in the seventh inning and tied the game on Greg Olson's RBI single in the eighth. The Bearkats loaded the bases in the 10th inning after Mark Hudson and John Hale reached on two-out singles and Olson drew a walk before Stefan Lopez fanned Daniel Nottebart to earn his ninth save of the year.

Southeastern scored the eventual winning run in the 10th after Josh Cryer reached on a one-out single off SHSU reliever Michael Oros (1-4). Cryer advanced to second on a wild pitch before Hebert lined a pitch just inside the right-field line to put the Lions ahead.

The Lions took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Jeff Harkensee tripled off the wall in the center field that plated Jonathan Pace before Cryer reached on a two-out error. Harkensee, who finished 3-for-4, gave Southeastern a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning when he hit an opposite field double and Hebert scored in the sixth on a sacrifice squeeze bunt by Trey Martin.

Efferson (8-2), who fanned five batters and walked one, earned his 24th career win to move to within one of Kenny Lerhmann's school record. The right-hander retired seven straight batters and set down the league's second-best offensive team in order in the third, fourth, sixth and ninth innings.

Hebert went 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Lions, who collected 10 hits and capitalized on four walks and a pair of SHSU errors.

Oros took the loss for the Bearkats after allowing a run on four hits in three innings. SHSU starter Brandon Kimbrel went seven inning and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits.

Hale led SHSU at the plate going 3-for-5 while Hudson and Olson had two hits each.
