NEW ORLEANS – Matt Ryan opened a four-run sixth inning with a game-tying single and Tulane pulled away with a five-run eighth to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 13-8, in a see-saw contest Tuesday night at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Blake Crohan went 3-for-5 and scored twice while Bowen Woodson went 2-for-4 with three RBI as Tulane (22-15) collected 17 hits, including six doubles.

Southeastern (24-14), trailed 4-1 after four innings before chipping away at the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Michael Rutland led off the frame with a single, Brock Hebert drew a walk and both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jonathan Pace. Justin Boudreaux followed with a sacrifice fly before Jeff Harkensee hit an RBI single to drive in Hebert and cut the Green Wave lead to 4-3.

The Lions erupted for three runs in the sixth inning in taking their first lead of the game. Cass Hargis and Cody Gougler reached on infield singles before Southeastern tied the game at 4-4 when Jacob Fisher reached on an error by Brennan Middleton that allowed Hargis to score.

Rutland reached on an infield single to load the bases before the Lions took the lead when Gougler scored on a fielder's choice by Hebert. Pace added his second sacrifice of the game as his squeeze bunt plated Fisher for a 6-4 lead.

Wade Konvicka (1-0) got out of inning for Tulane as he fanned Boudreaux and Tulane would answer with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead for good.

Harkensee, who went 2-for-5, cut the Green Wave lead to 8-7 in the seventh with a leadoff homer to right before Tulane pulled away in the eighth.

Tulane had its first seven batters reach base, including six on base hits, as it sent 10 men to the plate. Jeremy Schaffer opened the scoring with an RBI single before Woodson, Brandon Boudreaux, Frank Florio and Middleton followed with RBI singles for a 13-7 lead.

Konvicka pitched six innings and allowed eight hits in earning his first career victory. Junior D.J. Ponder pitched the final 1.1 innings to notch his first career save.

Dylan Hills (1-1) took the loss for Southeastern after allowing three runs – one earned – in 1.1 innings. Gougler went 3-for-5 with two RBI to lead Southeastern at the plate while Hargis went 2-for-5 to increase his career hit total to 274, two shy of the school-record held by Ty Summerlin from 2006-09.

Southeastern will return to Southland Conference play on Thursday when it plays host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 6 p.m. contest at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The teams will play Friday at 6 p.m. before concluding the series on Saturday at 2.
