SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Jeff Harkensee capped a four-run seventh inning with an RBI single and Southeastern Louisiana erupted for six runs and 11 hits in the final three innings to overtake UTSA, 8-5, in a Southland Conference game Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.
Southeastern (11-4, 2-0 SLC) won its third game in a row and its sixth straight over UTSA (6-11, 0-2 SLC) dating back to 2009. The series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m. Southeastern will send
Tyler Watkins (2-0, 1.64 ERA) to the mound while UTSA will counter with Jordan Langley (1-1, 4.50 ERA).
After managing four hits through the first six innings, Southeastern posted six hits – including five straight off a pair of UTSA pitchers – to erase a 5-2 deficit.
Trey Martin and
Cass Hargis opened the rally with a pair of singles before both scored on a double by
Jonathan Pace that cut the UTSA lead to 5-4.
The Lions tied the game when
Justin Boudreaux laced an opposite-field triple and Harkensee followed with an RBI single to right off reliever Cody Scott (1-3) to give Southeastern the lead for good.
Southeastern added a run in the eighth when Martin hit a one-out double to right and scored on Pace's RBI single before
Josh Cryer led off the ninth with a double and scored two batters later when
Jacob Fisher grounded into a double-play.
Jason Greenleaf (1-1) pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two hits and fanned two in earning his first collegiate victory.
Stefan Lopez pitched the final 1.2 innings for the Lions, allowing one hit and striking out three to earn his fourth save.
UTSA took a 5-1 lead after five innings as Ryan Hutson belted a pair of home runs and Daniel Rockett added a solo blast in the fourth inning off Southeastern starter
Joseph Koon.
The Roadrunners collected six of their nine hits in the first five innings before getting three runners on base over the final four innings.
Boudreaux went 4-for-5 and scored twice to lead Southeastern while Pace added three hits in extending his hitting streak to 12 games. Hargis, Martin and
Cody Gougler had two hits each for the Lions with Martin scoring three times.
