HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will host Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State at 6 p.m. in the Alumni Day game Saturday at 6 p.m. in the University Center.
The game between the host Lady Lions (10-9, 2-5 Southland) and SHSU (11-11, 5-3 Southland) was originally scheduled for 3 p.m. However, icy conditions in the east Texas area will not allow the Bearkats to make the trip to Hammond in time for the originally scheduled tip.
The jersey retirement of Robin Roberts will remain at 3 p.m. in the University Center. However, the scheduled honoring of returning Lady Lion alumni will still take place at halftime of the 6 p.m. Southeastern-Sam Houston State Southland Conference contest. Saturday's game will be broadcast on the Internet only at www.LionSports.net, where live stats will also be available.
Anchorwoman for ABC-TV's “Good Morning America,” Roberts starred for the Lady Lions from 1979-83. She currently ranks among the program's career leaders in points (1,446, 6th), rebounds (1,034, 4th), games played (114, 3rd), field goals made (507, 5th), free throws made (432, 4th) and free throw percentage (72.0, 10th). In 2006, she was named one of the NCAA's "100 Most Influential Student-athletes" in conjunction with the NCAA Centennial Celebration.
A 1983 graduate of Southeastern and a member of the university's Athletics Hall of Fame, Roberts has worked in broadcasting for more than 20 years and became co-anchor of “Good Morning America” in 2005. During her tenure with GMA, the program has won three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Morning program.
Roberts began her broadcasting career while at Southeastern, working at WHMD/WFPR Radio in Hammond where she was sports director. She also served as a special assignment sports reporter in 1982 for KSLU-FM, the university's public radio station. Later she held various broadcasting jobs in Atlanta, Nashville – where she won the “Nashville Scene” Sportscaster of the Year Award – Biloxi and Hattiesburg, Miss. From 1990 to 2005, Roberts was a contributor to ESPN, where her assignments included hosting "SportsCenter" and contributing to "NFL PrimeTime."

Southeastern heads into the game coming off its biggest win of the 2010-11 season. The Lady Lions overcame 23 turnovers by shooting 52 percent from the floor on the way to a 67-61 win over defending league champion Lamar on Wednesday night, ending a four-game losing streak.

Chelsea Hix led Southeastern with 12 points and was joined in double figures by senior center

Jessica Sommers each added eight points to fuel a balanced Lady Lion attack.
Southeastern also dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Lady Cardinals, 42-28.
Rashima Jenkins led the Lady Lions with 10 rebounds, while Gibson pulled down a career-high nine boards.
On the year, Southeastern is averaging 63.8 points per game on the year.
Kelli Jenkins leads the team with 10.1 points per game.
Rashima Jenkins (9.2 ppg), Gibson (8.7 ppg), Hix (7.7 ppg) and Mackie (6.5 ppg) round out the team's top five scorers.
The Lady Lions are leading the Southland with a 41.4 field goal percentage. Each of Southeastern's top three scorers – Gibson (48.5, 5th),
Rashima Jenkins (46.5, 8th) and
Kelli Jenkins (43.6, 11th) – rank among the Southland's most accurate shooters.
Kelli Jenkins is also the team's top distributor, ranking seventh in the Southland with 3.6 assists per game. The Plaquemine native currently sits in sixth with 281 career assists.
Hix, who is 10th in the league with 1.7 three-point field goals per game, also is represented among the school's all-time leaders. The Canton, Ga. product ranks second in school history in career three-point field goals made (145), third in three-point field goals attempted (406), while also sitting sixth with a 35.8 three-point field goal percentage.
After a strong performance on the boards, Southeastern is back atop the league with a plus-4.9 rebounding margin.
Rashima Jenkins leads the team and sits in ninth with 7.4 rebounds per game, while Mackie is 13th in the league with 6.8 boards per contest. Mackie, an Arlington, Texas native, needs 32 rebounds to become the 15th student-athlete in school history with 500 career rebounds.
Defensively, the Lady Lions are holding opponents to 67.2 points per game and forcing 17.4 turnovers per contest. Senior guard

Latoria Holder (27 steals), who is 14th in the league with 12 blocked shots.
Sam Houston State will be looking to snap a three-game losing skid. The Bearkats started league play with a 5-0 record, but have hit a rough stretch, including a 71-66 home loss to McNeese State on Wednesday.
In the loss to the Cowgirls, the Bearkats were led by sophomore forward Britni Martin, who netted 16 points. Martin was joined in double figures by sophomore forwards Clarke Davis (11 points) and Sequeena Thomas (10 points).
Sam Houston State is averaging 67.5 points per game. Martin is second in the Southland with 16.1 points per game. Thomas (14.3 ppg) and sophomore guard Chanice Smith (11.5 ppg) are the other top scorers for the Bearkats.
SHSU junior guard Kharma Echols (4.0 apg, 3rd) and Martin (3.7 apg, 6th) both rank among the Southland Conference assist leaders. Martin also leads the Southland with 2.8 three-point field goals per game, as she has netted 62 treys for the year.
The Bearkats are second in the Southland with 42.0 rebounds per game, but are being out-rebounded by 1.3 boards per contest. Thomas is second in the league with 9.9 rebounds per game.
Defensively, Sam Houston State is allowing 68.5 points per game and forcing 19.8 turnovers per outing. Thomas is fourth in the league with 1.7 blocked shots per game, while Echols (2.1 spg, 7th) and Martin (2.1 spg, 8th) are both among the Southland Conference steals per game leaders.
Southeastern is 20-9 all-time versus Sam Houston State and has won the last five meetings. Last season,
Rashima Jenkins posted a double-double, finishing with 20 points and 13 rebounds in a 70-60 Southeastern win in Huntsville, Texas.
