HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana senior forward Rashima Jenkins posted her second double-double of the season with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Lions to a 65-48 victory over William Carey in non-conference women's basketball action Tuesday night in the University Center.

The Lady Lions pulled away in the second half and have a 3-0 record for the first time since the 1999-00 season. The game was an exhibition for the visiting Lady Saders.

Southeastern led by five at halftime, but pushed the lead to double digits for good early in the second half. Lady Lion head coach Lori Davis Jones was proud of her team's effort in the second game of its only back-to-back contests of the season.

“We knew that we were going to have to be mentally tough to handle the second game of a back-to-back,” Jones commented. “We came out with good energy and maintained it throughout the game for the most part. Things were a little ragged, which is to be expected early in the season, but we felt like our team came out with the right focus and attitude tonight. Now, we have to take that mental toughness on the road and see if we can get our first win away from home.”

Jenkins led three Lady Lions in double figures, as senior center Rachel Mackie and junior guard Latoria Holder posted season highs with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Junior guards Kelli Jenkins and Jessica Sommers chipped in with eight points apiece.

Kelli Jenkins led Southeastern in assists for the third straight game, finishing with seven assists. Jenkins now has 230 career assists, moving her past Southeastern Hall of Famer Pam Cook for ninth place on the school's career list. Holder also had three assists for Southeastern.

Rashima Jenkins helped Southeastern hold a 44-34 rebounding advantage. Freshman forward Aja Gibson and Holder each had six rebounds apiece for the Lady Lions.

The Lady Lion defense was also impressive for the third straight game, scoring 23 points off 28 William Carey turnovers. Holder and Gibson had three steals apiece, as Southeastern finished with 13 steals for the game. Southeastern also blocked a season-high six shots, led by senior guard Mary Fountain and her three rejections.

Junior guard TeAnna Carter led William Carey with 10 points and was the lone Lady Sader in double figures. Sophomore forward Crystal Tucker led all players with 11 rebounds off the bench, while Carter and senior guard Hope Swindle had three assists each.

Neither team could get going offensively in an evenly played first half. The Lady Lions took a 27-22 advantage into the break behind six points from both Holder and Kelli Jenkins.

Much like they did in Monday's 89-64 win over Spring Hill, the Lady Lions pulled away early in the second half. Mackie scored six points in a 15-6 run to start the second half that gave Southeastern a 42-28 lead with 14:27 left.

William Carey got no closer than 11 the rest of the way. The Southeastern lead grew to as many as 21 late in the second half.

Southeastern will hit the road for the first time in 2010-11 on Friday. The Lady Lions will face UNO at 7 p.m. in the Human Performance Center.
