HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, closing out a three-game road swing at Alabama in a 6 p.m. contest at Coleman Coliseum.

Tuesday's game between the Lady Lions (1-3) and Crimson Tide (2-2) will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net. Live stats for the contest will also be available at www.rolltide.com.

Southeastern is coming off a tough 60-50 loss at Savannah State on Sunday afternoon. A sluggish first half saw the Lady Lions fall behind by 15 at the break. Southeastern rallied to within six in the final minutes, but went cold from the field and SSU iced the game from the charity stripe.

Senior guard Quantae Thomas led Southeastern with 11 points on Sunday, followed by sophomore guard Kelli Jenkins (10 points), senior guard Kim Edmonson (eight points) and sophomore guard Gabrielle George (eight points). Senior post Zevy Ivory led the Lady Lions with seven rebounds, while Jenkins and Thomas each dished out a team-high three assists. Jenkins also had three steals in the loss.

Thomas has been the team's most consistent performer, averaging 15.8 points per game, while also leading the team in field goal percentage (51.2), three-point field goal percentage (52.4) and free throw percentage (88.9). Edmonson (9.8 ppg), Jenkins (8.0 ppg), George (8.0 ppg) and Ivory (6.5 ppg) are the other top scorers for the Lady Lions.

Ivory leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per contest. Thomas and junior guard Chelsea Hix follow with 4.0 rebounds per outing, as the Lady Lions are averaging 35.2 rebounds per contest.

Jenkins leads the team with 5.3 assists per game, followed by Hix and freshman guard Erica Burgess with 2.3 assists per contest. Southeastern is forcing 20.5 turnovers per game with Jenkins averaging a team-best 2.3 steals per game.

If the Lady Lions are to upset Alabama, they must limit their turnovers. After 18 turnovers at Savannah State – including 12 that led to its first-half deficit – Southeastern is giving away the ball 21.8 times per game.

Southeastern will face an Alabama squad which has seen both of its losses come in overtime – including a 96-90 loss to Southeastern's Southland Conference rival A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 14. On Saturday, the Crimson Tide dropped a 69-67 overtime decision to Belmont.

Against the Bruins, Alabama lost despite a dominant performance by junior forward Tierney Jenkins. Jenkins posted a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 27 rebounds in the loss. Senior guard Dedrea Magee (16 points, eight rebounds) and junior guard Varisia Raffington (12 points, seven rebounds) also had standout performances for the Crimson Tide.

Jenkins leads the team with 13.5 points per contest, followed by Magee (10.3 ppg), Raffington (9.5 ppg), junior guard LaToya King (9.0 ppg) and freshman Candace Sykes (7.8 ppg). Alabama is outrebounding opponents by 10 rebounds per contest. Jenkins leads the team with 13.5 rebounds per game, followed by Raffington (5.5 rpg) and freshman forward Jocelyn Shaw (5.0 rpg).

King leads the team with 4.5 assists per game. The Crimson Tide is forcing opponents into 21.3 turnovers per contest. Jenkins leads the team with 1.3 kills per game.

Southeastern is 2-5 all-time versus Alabama. The Lady Lions have lost each of the last four seasons to the Crimson Tide, though none of those losses came by more than 10 points. Last season, the Lady Lions fell, 58-49, in Hammond despite a 16-point, seven-rebound outing by then-senior forward Kristy Carlin.

Southeastern has lost its last 21 games against Southeastern Conference members, including an 80-42 loss at Ole Miss earlier this season. Southeastern's last win over an SEC opponent was an 84-61 win over Mississippi State during the 1994-95 season.

Following Tuesday's game, Southeastern will return home to host in-state foe Centenary on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the University Center. Saturday's game will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring sophomore forward Shauna Stewart courtesy of the Southeastern PRIDE (Positive Role models Involved in Developing Excellence).
