Southeastern Routs Centenary, 105-49, to Open 2025-26

SLU (1-0) opens Jeff Dow Era with first 100-point scoring output since 2009-10

HAMMOND, La. – Behind a balanced attack that featured six double-digit scorers, the reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team began the Jeff Dow Era with a convincing 105-49 victory over Centenary in the 2025-26 season opener for both teams Monday morning in the University Center.

The single-game point total marked the first time Southeastern (1-0) scored over 100 points in a regular season game since a 113-53 win over Millsaps during the 2009-10 season.

Armed with a roster featuring 12 newcomers, the Lady Lions were an efficient 50.7 percent (34-for-67) from the floor in Monday's win. Taylor Ross paced SLU with 16 points and was joined in double figures by Mia Ramos (14), Aliyah Collins (14), Natalie Huff (13), Bethany Graves (13) and Eryn McKinzie (11).

Southeastern finished with 17 assists versus just seven turnovers in the season opener. Huff engineered the SLU offense, finishing with a game-high seven assists and no turnovers on the night.

The Lady Lions also controlled the glass, outrebounding the visitors, 42-29. Erynn Williams came off the bench to lead Southeastern with nine rebounds.

A relentless Lady Lion defense scored 41 points off 29 turnovers by the visiting Ladies (0-1). Huff led the way with seven steals, while Collins nabbed three and Ramos contributed two.

Alexis Duhon led Centenary with 12 points, while teammates Layla Powell and Amiyah Barrow chipped in 10 points apiece.

McKinzie scored nine points in the opening period to help SLU to a 31-20 advantage after the initial 10 minutes. Centenary would trim the lead to six early in the second quarter, but the Lady Lions closed out the period on a 13-0 run to head into halftime with a 54-32 cushion.

The second half was all Southeastern, as the Lady Lions outscored the visitors, 51-17, after the break. Graves scored 12 points over the final two quarters, as SLU held a 30-8 scoring advantage in the paint over the last 20 minutes.

The Lady Lions will play their next three games on the road, starting Thursday with a 7 p.m. game at No. 5 LSU. Thursday's game will be televised on SEC Network+ and can be heard on KSLU 90.9 The Lion.
