Southeastern Celebrates Senior Day With 71-45 Victory Over Nicholls

SLU (14-9, 10-3 SLC) clinches first round bye in Southland Tournament behind Carrier's career-high 25 points and six threes

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team closed out its 2021-22 home schedule with a convincing 71-45 Senior Day victory over Nicholls Saturday afternoon in the University Center.

With the win, Southeastern (14-9, 10-3 Southland) has clinched a first-round bye in the Southland Conference Tournament, set for March 10-13 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. The Lady Lions can clinch one of the top two seeds with a victory in next Saturday's regular season finale at Northwestern State.

Playing in the final home game of her career, Morgan Carrier tied a career-high with 25 points to lead Southeastern offensively. Taylor Bell added 13 points, as 12 different Lady Lions scored in Saturday's win.

Carrier and Bell shared team-high honors with seven rebounds each, as SLU finished with a 46-32 rebounding advantage. Chrissy Brown and Hailey Giaratano led the Lady Lions with three assists each.

As has been the case the majority of the season, the Lady Lion defense was dominant in Saturday's victory. SLU held Nicholls (4-19, 2-10 Southland) to 22.4 percent (11-for-49) shooting from the field. Breonca Ducksworth paced Southeastern with three steals.

Carrier, Brown, Ducksworth, Caitlyn Williams, Morgan Davis and Kacey Bradford were honored prior to the game in a special Senior Day ceremony. It was Carrier who had the big day for the Lady Lions, setting a new career-high with six three-point field goals in Saturday's win.

Chyna Allen led Nicholls with 13 points, while Jazmyn Womack pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Colonels.

Southeastern jumped out to a 23-9 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back. The Colonels never trimmed the lead under double digits for the remainder of the game and SLU grew the lead to as many as 26 in the final quarter.

The Lady Lions' regular season finale at Northwestern State will tip off at 1 p.m. next Saturday in Natchitoches and can be heard online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive.
