Southeastern Remains Unbeaten in Southland Play With 78-68 Win Over McNeese

SLU (12-6, 8-0 SLC) uses 24-13 fourth quarter to complete season sweep of Cowgirls

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team outscored McNeese, 24-13, in the fourth quarter on the way to a 78-68 victory over McNeese in Southland Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening in the University Center.

SLU (12-6, 8-0 Southland) extended its win streak to eight games behind a balanced offensive effort that saw four Lady Lions finish in double figures. McNeese fell to 9-12 overall and 4-4 in league play with its second loss to Southeastern in a week.

Morgan Carrier led the Southeastern offensive attack, finishing with a game-high 19 points and connecting on five three-point field goals. Morgan Davis chipped in with 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Lady Lions. Breonca Ducksworth (11 points) and Alexius Horne (10 points) gave SLU a quartet in double figures.

"We have a special group and we keep on finding a way to win," Southeastern head coach Ayla Guzzardo said. "Morgan (Carrier) stepped up and hit some big shots for us and Morgan (Davis) was a big presence in the paint for us."

McNeese was led by the duo of Desirae Hanse and Zuzanna Kulinska with 15 points apiece. Kalli Chamberlain gave the Cowgirls a trio in double figures with 12 points.

Southeastern led 36-35 after a tightly contested first half. The third period switched back and forth seven times in the third quarter, but McNeese went into the final quarter with a 55-54 cushion.

The final period was all Lady Lions. Southeastern limited the Cowgirls to 17.6 percent (3-for-17) shooting in the final 10 minutes. SLU went 5-for-12 from the floor, but netted 12 free throws in the final quarter to secure the victory and remain alone atop the Southland standings.

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday, hosting HBU at 1 p.m. in the University Center. The game will be televised on ESPN+.

Caitlyn Williams will be Saturday's Spotlight Player of the Game and the first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Brusly, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.
