HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern pitching dominated during a hot day on the diamond Saturday, as a run-scoring double play proved to be the difference in the 2-1 outcome at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Redshirt sophomore
Connor Manola staked Team GATA to an early lead, blasting a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the second inning. It was the first homer of the fall for the catcher from Port Allen, Louisiana. Team Mamba tied the game in the top of the sixth on a two-out RBI single by
Jacob Burke. Team GATA regained the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning with outfielder
Brandon Hale scoring from third on a double-play grounder to second base.
Reliever Cam Gauthier (1-0) earned the win in relief. The freshman from Opelousas, Louisiana, buckled down after allowing an inherited runner to score, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and striking out a pair.
Dalton Aspholm worked a pair of scoreless innings to close out the game and pick up the save. The freshman from Baton Rouge, Louisiana walked a pair and struck out one.
Daniel Dugas (0-1) was tagged with the loss despite allowing just one hit in two innings of work. He walked none and struck out three.
Junior starter
Will Warren did not receive a decision but he set the tone early, retiring all but one batter he faced in his four-inning stint. The right-hander walked one and struck out five. Transfers Brock Batty and Cole Hoskins both turned in solid outings out of the pen as well. Batty worked three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and four walks. The left-hander from Denham Springs, Louisiana also struck out four batters. Hoskins allowed one hit in two scoreless frames, striking out three.
Burke's 2-for-3 day at the plate led all hitters, driving in a run and dropping a double down the left-field line.

Preston Faulkner (1-for-2), Hale (1-for-2),
Trey Harrington (1-for-4), Manola (1-for-3), Taylor Phillips (1-for-3) and Christian Westcott (1-for-1) all produced hits during the second instrasquad scrimmage of the fall.
