HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana junior first baseman
Preston Faulkner blasted his second home run of the fall Saturday, breaking up a tie game as Team GATA held on for a 3-1 win at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Faulkner launched a 2-1 pitch into orbit somewhere beyond the left-field video board with one out and the bases empty in the sixth inning. GATA later scored a runner from second base on a potential double-play grounder to pad its lead.
Daniel Dugas (1-2) earned the win, allowing one run in two innings of relief work. Freshman right-hander Andrew Landry picked up the save, tossing a scoreless inning to close out the game.
Robert Burke (0-1) suffered the loss in his first action of the fall, allowing a pair of runs in 0.2 innings pitched.
In addition to Faulkner's 2-for-3 day at the plate,
Champ Artigues (2-for-4) and
Evan Keller (2-for-2) each picked up a pair of hits. Keller also walked twice, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances. Others picking up hits included
Jacob Burke (1-for-2),
Christian Garcia (1-for-2),
Trey Harrington (1-for-2),
Eli Johnson (1-for-2),
Nick Ray (1-for-4) and Rhett Rosevear (1-for-1).
Jacob Burke's hit came in the sixth off his older brother Robert and Rosevear picked up a pair of walks, reaching safely in all three plate appearances.
