HAMMOND, La. – After leading Southeastern Louisiana in scoring for the second straight year, Lady Lion senior guard
Celica Sterling was named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana Women's Basketball Teams, which were released by the LSWA on Monday.
Sterling, a Baton Rouge native, was named to the team as an honorable mention selection. It marked the second straight year Sterling was named to the All-Louisiana squad. Last month, she earned All-Southland Conference honors for the second straight season.
Sterling finished the regular season with 13.8 points per game and is seventh in the Southland in scoring. Sterling has scored in double figures in 20 games and is fifth in the league with 62 three-point field goals.
Since transferring from Baton Rouge Community College prior to last season, Sterling has been the go-to scorer for the Lady Lions. She ranks among the school's career leaders in three-point field goals made (128, 5th), three-point field goals attempted (345, 6
th) and three-point field goal percentage (37.1, 4
th).
LSU's Ayana Mitchell and LSU Shreveport's DeAiua Thompson shared state Player of the Year accolades. LSU's Awa Trasi was tabbed Newcomer of the Year, while ZyUnn Cormier of Louisiana College earned Freshman of the Year honors with SLU's
Alexius Horne the runner-up. Jaime Gonzales of LSU Eunice earned Coach of the Year recognition.
The All-Louisiana teams were selected by state media members and sports information directors. SID's were not allowed to vote for nominees from their institution.
