HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will close out the home portion of its 2019-20 schedule on Saturday, hosting Northwestern State at 1 p.m. in the University Center.

Saturday's game will also be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the TuneIn Radio and Lions Game Day Experience apps.

Prior to Saturday's contest, the senior class of Celica Sterling, Tyler Morrison, Aminat Jubril, Jyar Francis, Charliee Dugas and student assistant Alex Tomchek will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony at 12:40 p.m.

"Charliee and Tyler started with the program the same season that I did and have put in the work to turn this program around," Southeastern head coach Ayla Guzzardo commented. "We've added key players like Jyar, Aminat and Celica and this group has helped change the culture for our program. Their willingness to buy in will be what I remember them for, not the points, rebounds and assists."

The senior class is trying to help SLU (11-15, 8-9 Southland) to its first postseason berth since the 2011-12. With three games left, Southeastern has a one-game lead over Central Arkansas for the final spot. Northwestern State (7-19, 4-13 Southland) has been eliminated from postseason contention.

Southeastern improved its Southland Conference Tournament chances on Wednesday with an 87-48 victory – matching the most lopsided Southland win in program history – over McNeese. Sterling led SLU with 21 points, while Dugas added 13 and became the 21st player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

Francis and Caitlyn Williams each grabbed 10 rebounds to propel Southeastern to a 45-28 advantage on the boards. Morrison dished out a game-high seven assists for the Lady Lions.

Sterling is fourth in the league with 14.4 points per game. Francis (9.5 ppg), Alexius Horne (9.5 ppg), Morgan Carrier (7.8 ppg), Williams (7.4 ppg) and Dugas (7.2 ppg) are the other top scorers for SLU.

Horne is also third in the Southland with 3.8 assists per game. She and Morrison provide the Lady Lions with a potent point guard tandem, as Morrison is ninth in school history with 271 career assists.

Sterling (2.4, 4th) and Carrier (1.6, 14th) are among the Southland leaders in three-point field goals per game. Sterling enters Saturday's contest ranked on the program's career leaderboard in three-point field goals made (127, 5th), three-point field goals attempted (340, 7th) and three-point field goal percentage (37.4, 3rd).

Williams is the top rebounder for Southeastern and is 11th in the conference with 6.5 rebounds per game. She currently is 13th on the school's career list with 554 career rebounds.

Opponents are averaging 63.2 points and committing 17.2 turnovers per contest. Horne's 1.9 steals per game are good for ninth in the league, while Morrison (146, 8th) and Dugas (144, 9th) are among the school's career leaders in steals.

Williams has climbed to seventh in the Southland with 1.2 blocked shots per game. She is currently eighth in school history with 124 career blocks.

Northwestern State is led by Kira Bonner, who is averaging a team-high 14.2 points per game – good for sixth in the Southland. Jasmyn Johnson is second on the team with 9.2 points per outing and is fourth in the league with 2.3 steals per contest. Lacee Savage leads the Lady Demons with 5.3 rebounds per game.

NSU leads the all-time series between the two teams, 48-22. Back on Jan. 25, Sterling (17 points), Horne (14 points, eight assists) and Carrier (12 points) helped SLU to a 72-56 win in Natchitoches. Bonner led all scorers with 31 points in the loss.
