HAMMOND, La. – Two-out RBIs proved key to Saturday's 6-4 comeback win for Team Mamba during Southeastern Louisiana's fall intrasquad scrimmage at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Tied, 1-1, after three innings, freshman Cade Scott put Mamba (6-8-1) out in front in the top of the fourth with a two-run double to left-center field, plating
Evan Keller and
Kenneth Bell, III. The lead was short-lived, though, as senior infielder
Johnny Johnson delivered a two-out, two-run single in the bottom half of the inning, driving home
Bryce Grizzaffi and
Jacob Burke to tie the scrimmage.
Team GATA (8-6-1) pushed ahead 4-3 in the fifth on an RBI single by
Preston Faulkner, but Mamba scratched across a pair in the seventh to regain the lead. Senior third baseman
Eli Johnson delivered the dagger in the eighth, driving a two-out single through the left side to score catcher Gaby Cruz with an insurance run.
Reliever Brock Batty (1-1) earned the win, allowing one unearned run in two innings pitched. He scattered three hits, striking out one batter. Cole Hoskins earned his second save of the fall, working 1.1 scoreless to close out the contest.
Robert Burke (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing a pair of runs in 2.2 innings of relief work.
Trey Harrington (3-for-4),
Christian Garcia (2-for-3),
Johnny Johnson (2-for-4), Rhett Rosevear (2-for-5) and Scott (2-for-2) all turned in multi-hit performances.
Champ Artigues (1-for-2), Cruz (1-for-4), Faulkner (1-for-4),
Brandon Hale (1-for-4),
Eli Johnson (1-for-2), Taylor Phillips (1-for-1) and Brennan Stuprich (1-for-4) also picked up hits.
